10/26/2013 0 Comments Marlin Vs. The WorldThe above is my favorite clip from the "Finding Nemo" movie by Disney/Pixar. And I'll tell you why. The last few weeks, being pregnant with baby number 4 has had it's ups and downs. Ok just downs and down-furthers. Needless to say, housework and anything that requires me to be off of the couch for more than about 49 seconds has been neglected. So today, I was cycling through the children't films we haven't seen in the last 48 hours. One can only watch and filter through ones brain "Wreck it Ralph" or "Brave" so many times in a short period, before one looses said brain. Since I can quote both of the above listed titles from memory, I decided to take a "break" and watch an old favorite. The kids complained at first, because they "don't like nemo" and "it's a baby show!", and yet their little eyeballs are glued to the screen because they haven't seen it in 2 years. Which, at their young ages, is about half-if not more- of their lifetimes thus far! The story, as you all are probably aware, is about a father and a son, Marlin and Nemo, who are separated after quite a traumatic start to the film. The remainder of the flick is the journey Marlin takes to rescue and be reunited with Nemo, his only son. The clip above, which is my favorite, is briefly summarized here, but you should watch it to get the complete feelings of nostalgia: Nemo is in a holding place, the fish tank, located in a dentist's office in Australia. A pelican flies to the window because he has heard "through the grapevine" that Marlin, Nemo's dad. has overcome MUCH to be reunited with his son. Nemo is shocked at the revelation of such a rescue, and overwhelmed with joy! In the sequence, Nemo says "That's my dad, Marlin! He took on a shark!" and the Pelican replies "I heard he took on three!!" I know, I know, it's a children's movie, and I know, I know, it isn't the Word... But may I remind you that most of my "devotionals" throughout my crazy day are in fact disguised as games, peekaboo, and animated films. As I laid on the couch, nauseated beyond repair, and out of any ounce of energy in my body, the Holy Spirit whispered His faithful promise to me again. While I am in this holding place- maybe and thankfully!- not a dentist's fish tank. But maybe this season of life. this place of sick for a reason, and fatigue. He is fighting for me. And just when I think He is coming with help- the Holy Spirit reminds me that He is taking on more than I can think of or understand. He isn't just taking on the battle, friend, of your current situation. He isn't just solving the problem, lonely one, where you are right now. He isn't making a way, lost and confused one, for the valley you're in at this time. He is TAKING ON THE WORLD FOR YOU! HE TOOK ON more than your past, more than the present, more than your future. He is faithful and fighting for you!! If you need hope this afternoon, like I did- just remember that He took on a heck of a lot more than you'll ever know- just to be with you. So put on a movie- and maybe your current life situation allows for more variety than Nemo- or put on motivation, and righteousness. Put on the armor, knowing full well that He is on your side. Greater is He that is in me, than He that is in the world.
