1/25/2013 0 Comments Barbie Band-AidsMcKenna spent the night at her GaGa's house last night. Since we only live about a block away, they walked home this morning. On the way home she fell and scraped up her right knee. I am almost certain her ego took a bigger bang than her leg. Immediately she needed carried to the couch, where she refused anything but stellar treatment. We wiped the gaping wound with peroxide and placed a sterile "Barbie" bandage over it. Luckily we were able to save the leg. But for the next hour, she wouldn't move. Not off the couch, not around on the couch- she sat still. Not able to play or see her siblings. She was paralyzed by the idea of moving, because it could possible sting momentarily the scrape on her knee. She also made the incident public by broadcasting the story over and over and telling all of us not to come within 50 yards of the scrape. It made me think. As believers, we can make such a fuss about a small offense. Whether with a leader in our church, a friend of some time, or a husband- which is usually my pitfall! Needless to say, we usually make a HUGE deal out of a minor scrape. And the scrapes usually come in the form of our egos! We require everyone around us to give us above-average treatment while we sulk about our hurt. We require an audience to hear about our broken heart. And then proudly wear an obnoxiously large multi-colored bandage over our heart like a war-trophy proclaiming how "wronged" we were. (Not to mention how we ask for "prayer" while gossiping about the person who did such a thing.) We paralyze ourselves over something so small and unimportant. We keep ourselves from moving around in life and from the purposes of God because we are frozen by the fear of stinging the past rejection. When as parents- we encourage our kids to fix the hurt by simply moving around a nd shaking it off. Knowing full well that the pain is brief and minor compared to the torture of missing out on the world around our kids. Why can't we see the similarity in knowing that if we would just "brush-off" the offense life could continue around us easily and usually pain free, forgetting about the previous hurt. Jesus help me to be someone who "brushes it off". Someone who doesn't take the bait of the enemy to be offended. After all, the sidewalk didn't jump up and scrape McKenna's knee purposefully- it was an accident. And usually offenses happen just the same. Jesus heal my heart where I have been offended and help me to move through past hurts to allow myself to enjoy life again and functioon fully for your purpose!
